Business Building

Just Hope has had a presence in Bauya, Sierra Leone since 2013. Throughout this time, we have formed relationships with many people eager to do their part to improve their circumstances. As many of our partners establish businesses such as palm oil production and goat husbandry, it is our privilege to walk with them and offer support. Our “boots on the ground” in Bauya mentor these burgeoning business people, guiding them in solid business practices.

Bright Defines Business

Another entrepreneur, Bright Oduro, has several pineapple fields he would like to continue running as a business. This month, Just Hope’s Field Officer David Opoku-Ababio worked with Bright to define what a business is – the creating, capturing and delivering value to customers. We also defined an entrepreneur as “one who makes life better for others” with the reasoning that solving problems for people is better and lasts longer than focusing on the sole aim of making money.

Bismark Broadens His Market

Our entrepreneurs in Ghana are moving swiftly through the Business Mentoring Program. One such entrepreneur is Bismark Ofori. Bismark produces healthy ginger drinks. As a promise to his customers, he will be providing free samples for customers to try before ordering. By providing free samples, he can generate interest from his customers and also broaden his market. He has already improved his ledger by tallying the number of drinks poured from a bottle in order to properly price and supply his product.

Savings Groups Gain Popularity Across Sierra Leone

We’re pleased to announce the launch of two new Savings Groups! Our newest group, from the village of Malumpor, is in the early stages of drafting their constitution and welcoming all members who want to participate. These initial steps are very important in the launching process as they define the group’s identity and organizational structure. As members begin the process of saving and loaning, they will begin to build trust within the group as well as realize financial support, which gives them the resources to purchase necessities and pay for medical care and school fees. These groups have taken the first steps to making their own “impact that lasts.”
