New Project! Farming and Finances in Lunsar

January 8, 2016

To the north of Bauya, Sierra Leone, in the neighboring district of Port Loko, lies a town of about 36,000 people called Lunsar. We became aware of Lunsar last year, when we met missionaries Dottie and Bill Jones, who have spent the last five years getting to know the Lunsar community and walking with many people in their efforts to improve their lives.

Discovering that we shared a vision of how to help people in poverty through empowerment, we have cultivated a beautiful relationship with Bill and Dottie and many of their Lunsar friends. One such friend is Foday Koroma, a local pastor who has planted 50 churches around Lunsar in the last five years. His network of pastors and other trusted community leaders provides enormous potential for Just Hope to reach people ready for a hand up.

We are delighted to announce support for economic empowerment work in Lunsar that will look similar to our efforts in Ghana, including dual-pronged VSLA and sustainable conservation agriculture. We have hired a local man, Abraham Mansaray (better known as “Shanty”), who will serve as our Boots on the Ground.

With a leadership trip planned in early spring, we look forward to sharing with you photos of the beginnings of this work and the people who will benefit from your generosity.
