Haiti has suffered devastating hurricanes, natural disasters and unplanned development, which have negatively affected the economy. It is the poorest country in the western hemisphere, having nearly 60% of it’s population living below the poverty level.

In Jeremie, the unemployment rate sits at 85%, after Hurricane Matthew swept through the region in 2016, wiping out businesses and homes. An entrepreneurial culture has developed, as people search for ways to restore communities and provide for their families.
